When you first meet Lillian at Pursuit Center, you’re immediately struck by her warm, genuine smile. Her eyes light up with sincere happiness to see you. This positivity weaves through Lillian’s inspiring journey of resilience, personal growth, and the power of found family.

Lillian, a soft-spoken and intelligent woman, has been an integral part of the Pursuit Center community since graduating high school. “Pursuit Center is my family,” Lillian often says, her voice filled with warmth and gratitude. The depth of this statement is evident in the strong bonds she’s formed within Pursuit Center’s nurturing environment.

Living in the Residential program and participating in the Pursuit Learning Academy, Lillian has created a life rich with purpose. “I really enjoy being at the Pursuit Learning Academy,” she says, her eyes bright. “It’s where I learn to be more confident and speak up. Plus, I get to be with all my friends!”

Lillian’s home life reflects the family she’s built at Pursuit Center. She shares a home with two roommates, and their evenings are filled with laughter and camaraderie. “We like to play Uno, board games, and watch movies together,” Lillian explains, adding, “And I have fun playing Super Mario!”

Independence is a source of pride for Lillian. “I can do my laundry and cook with my roommates,” she states confidently. This autonomy extends to her personal style as well. Lillian is fond of wearing makeup and earrings, saying, “It makes me feel confident to put on my favorite pair of earrings.”

One of the highlights of Lillian’s month is her outings with her mentor, Miss Joseyln. Together, they explore the city, catching the latest movies and trying out different restaurants. These experiences bring joy to Lillian help her engage with others. Lillian’s story is a great example of the strength of community.

Lillian’s passion for learning and helping others shines through in her recent endeavors. “I started teaching people how to be healthy and exercise,” she says proudly. Her enthusiasm extends to her own routine as well. She regularly attends Bloom Fitness, where she participates in various exercise programs. “My favorite is the chair exercises,” Lillian shares with a smile. “They’re fun and help me stay active.”

Debra Smith, our Direct Care Specialist, speaks highly of her: “Lillian is very good at letting you know how she’s feeling. She’s always willing to learn and show what she has learned. Her dedication to the Bloom Fitness program is truly inspiring.”

At the Pursuit Learning Academy, Lillian finds joy in simple activities. “I enjoy coloring and reading with my friends,” she shares. “And I appreciate our outings, especially when we go to Ninfa’s—it’s my favorite restaurant!” Her face brightens as she talks about another favorite pastime: “I have fun shopping at Bath and Body Works. Smelling the lotions and trying them out makes me so happy.”

Despite facing some health challenges in recent years, Lillian’s positivity remains unshaken. She approaches each day with optimism, always looking for the silver lining. This outlook has not only helped her navigate personal difficulties but has also inspired those around her.
